The Island of Porto Santo is eight miles long and four miles wide and is famous for its four mile long golden beach with safe water swimming. The island is favoured by being on the gulf stream so has a very pleasant sea temperature. The sand is said to have therapeutic properties that can help people with arthritic problems.
